Tight cornering

Hey everyone, quick question for some of you more experienced big single riders. I got my xt660x out a good wee rip today on some very twisty irish back roads. Im familiar with these roads, know every twist and turn and would be quite accomplished at most of the twists and bends on these roads. My question is this: What gear do you guys use for very tight corners? My previous bike was a bandit and i was able to accelerate quite hard out of tight corners in 3rd, 4th and sometimes even 5th gear!! However on my xt i found myself having to drop gears down into 2nd just to have enough power to come out through the corner without losing power at the back wheel. Is this common with big singles, is it my riding style that needs to change or is this something ill just have 2 get used to? All help is greatly appreciated as always. Thankyou :-)

Well only owned big singles, riden other stuff but only as lones and for max of a day
But I find on the tight twistys that your still lent over and changing from 2nd to 3rd which unsettles the bike
I've found myself without thinking about it staying in 3rd and slipping the clutch to give the drive out
Others that have riden other stuff for longer than a day might have better tips

depends how tight the bends are,, but id say from what yer sayin.. 4th maybe 3rd here an there.. but remember the single is a plodder,, if ye want tae go fast buy a fast bike like a bandit.. but ye`l be happy meandering thru them twisties in 4th gear... if ye were chasing someone in front.. well thats a different story,, yed do what ye need to do tae try an catch them... but in all honesty,, trailies beat yer usual smack in the right hands on the twisties.. but enjoy it rather have the knee down...then ye`1l have some time fur a bit o when ye get home in the garage
