please help....(cables)

guys... i really need your help!!! i can not get my new lengthened throttle cables to work properly but i need my bike up and running as i have trips arranged.

I dont technically know how to install throttle cables - as in, where you should start your adjusts from and so on. I just always play until it works.

I noticed that the cables had to be in the exact right postion, if you pull them down or to the side just a touch, the throttle action will stiffen up. my main prob is when locking the bars from right to left. 9 times of 10 all is cool and the throttle action is fine.

but 1 out of 10 times.....and the cables get caught on the support that holds the front cowl on. This jams the throttle!

i use Renthal Dakar high bars with 20mm shim stack risers. The new cables are 75mm longer than standard (Cost around 65).

there too bloody long arent they???? have any of you guys had lengthed cables. what length should i have gone for?? (so pissed of right now!!)

What height increase have you got in total?

You might be better off with the original cables but re-route them, you have to take the tank off to do this.

I'm not far away, if you need some help drop me a PM.

the risers are 20mm but the its hard to say how high the Dakar bars are over the normal ones as they're a different shape....say 25mm heigher??...so 50mm higher in total than normal??

Tried this set up with the OE cables, they were too tight on full lock. ive spent ALL day re-routing these cables, you name a route...ive done it...twice!

ive managed to get the cables to work and they dont seem to catch on full lock now. ive done it by using loose zip ties to make guides for the cables.

but the problem is the cables rub the support that holds the front cowl on. so they touch it when the bars are straight..then rub along / up and down it when the bars are turned either side.

i dont now how strong cable conduit is but surely it will start to rub through?? it will also take the paint of the metal support in no time.

Really toying with the idea of sending them off again but to be shortened.....think i should of said no more than 50mm longer than standard. (75mm was a slight over shoot!)

Not trying to be smart, but I have 25mm riser blocks and am still using the standard throttle cables with no jamming or interference that I can detect.

So could it be that the longer cables weren't needed?

25 mm risers with standard steering bar are OK. However, with higher Renthal Dakar bar, the throttle cables should be prolonged or possibly rerouted.
