XTX the story so far

Hi to all this is the first time my XTX has been on the site, bought new in March for 5295 all in, never had a test ride just sorted Yamaha low rate finance and went to collect.

My first impresion was of joy it looked ace in it's bright red paint, that is until i rode it, having various bikes in 30 years i was very dissapointed in the harsh fueling at one point i nearly turned around to ask for my money back.

I made the 100m trip home in freezing rain and snow, (dont ya just love the UKs weather) wondering what i had done, i had been looking on here like most do for a month, so the surging was of no surprise just a lot worse than i expected, Kev came to the rescue with the Fuel mod, and the O2 eliminater, both were fitted asap, and have made things a ton better but i am still wanting it better if thats possible, when i asked a Yamaha tech i was told "all big singles do that" ahh ok pal.

Next came a set of Arrow cans, baffles in or out it still SHOUTS, they have great quality and light weight, Worry Brother supplied a Tail Tidy which is all you will ever need from a TT, so it now has a pert rear instead of a saggy rear.

Ebay supplied a pair of handgaurds but i think i am going back to standard bar ends etc, Renthal grey soft grips help me hold on.

DNA stage 1+2 filters from OTR have made a fair difference it now sounds great and has made a big difference in how it picks up, snorkel out to.

At this point i decided i better start riding it seeing as the weater had picked up, i then wanted a small screen to help reduce the wind in your face feeling,a Puig screen was fitted the small one thats fit behind the original headlight unit, it help keep wind of your body but gets me just on the helmet, but has made it better.

I am now enjoying messing about on the XTX i find anything over a 100m trip is enough the seat does try to part my butt in a not so nice way, i enjoy the power at low speed, the upright riding position, the noise is awsome, it turns in nice if under national speeds but feel it needs a tug over that, it behaves well two up too, to some it up, for me it does just what i want it to do, in a reasonable way, yes it could be better but it would cost a lot more, it gives me scope to modify it to make it personal and its mine get your own.

Great looking bike mate.

We can improve the surging on these bikes but we will never cure the surging 100%, the motor is a high compression motor with a 100mm big bore with an old school fuel injection system so there is only so much we can improve the rest is a characteristic of the Yamaha design.

If it's any use been the same kind of route,my first port of call was to ditch the bars for Renthals, ended up with a PC via Kevs fuel mod,the holes in the airbox make a serious difference.

Drop the forks through the yokes to taste, you can cut your input down by some margin doing that.

If you decide your in it for the long haul, take the front brake and res off and replace with a radial lever and it'll be welcome to the 21st century,I've an EBC disc and Carbon Lorraine pads to go on but there's no point in fitting all in one go you've no idea where you are,I'd have preferred a Beringer disc but couldn't get one.

Idea was to leave it in the shed in standard trim and use it as and when, did'nt cost a lot not a lot to loose kind of thing, but as ever things took hold and improvements were there to be done, yes Radial brake master cylinder would be good i would like to change bars to Pro Tapers too, i know Kev changed his but i was not too sure what works and not, i know what you say about Yamaha and the surging, but in 2013 you would think its a thing of the past, got Kevs fork spacers on the way, get them fitted this week and drop forks through yokes 10mm see how that goes.

I've 3 other bikes all fuel injected all with their own quirks, the BM1100 has a PC,the Tiger has had more maps than I can remember the only real success have been the K1200 that's had a Rexxer map blown into the ECU which is a story in itself, the plan was the same as yours with the XT at the bottom of food chain but it hasn't worked out that way.

The only down side,I have never known a bike eat tyres like an XT.

Just waiting for a post on the difference between aftermarket cans and a MetalMule 2/1,I expect it'll have to be me.
