Hello

Hello guys and girls,

Recently packed in my job put my other bikes up for sale and bought myself a fantastic '10 tenere with a plan to go travelling the world, first destination USA!

Shall no doubt be asking for a little bit of help with ideas for planning and a few mods etc. over the next month or so before I'm looking to leave.

Pip.

and to

If you need to ask, I would ask JMo she did took the Tenere coast to coast in the US from the desert to the snowy mountains, she knows a thing or two as to roadside maintenance, so she would be a wealth of knowledge for you. Also check out her own Ask JMo section further down...

Hi Pip and welcome on board.

One of the forum members (uberthumper) is currently over in the USA on a Tenere; he may well be back before you set off and be able to give you some ideas, routes etc. He's doing the Trans-American-Trail (TAT).

Have a look at his thread: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=17835

Thanks CaptMoto and Pleiades for pointing me in the right direction of other members to seek words of wisdom from!

Planning all of this in a relatively short space of time so it's much appreciated, big one to figure out atm is how best to get it shipped over there in the first place.

Already loving the bike, wish I'd got one sooner!

Try James Cargo. They are specialists in motorcycle transportation and will do everything for you if you want; documentation, pick the bike up, take it to Heathrow, crate it up etc. You can save a bit by crating it yourself and delivering it to them at the airport. Costs about a grand (or did) if I recall, but you bike could be in the US the next day if you get the logistics right.

I haven't used them personally, but several people I know have over the years, including my dad, who transported his BMW there 2006 for 3 months.

Welcome to the party. Sounds like you're doing it right, I'm very jealous. It's gonna be an amazing journey and I'm looking forward to hearing all about it!
