French Supermarket Oil
WOT!!!
I was nattering to a car enthusiast neighbour and he was extolling the virtues of the oil he uses for his pride and joy that he gets from the local supermarket (Leclerc). So long story short after a bit of research I found some interesting tests on oil done by a French bike mag which showed that the "cheapo" own brand bike oil was in fact better quality, like for like, than some of the top brands and was there with Castrol and Silkolene at less than half the price. Has anyone done anything similar in the UK coz when the BOGOF offers are about the shelves clear pretty rapid!! |

Yip...If you check the API spec on the labels and it matches your car/moto then buy it..eg.I changed the oil in my Pajero yesterday with Super U 10-40W semi synthetic oil which matches the API spec in my manual. It was about 10 cheaper than the other brands.
I've been checking the oil spec API in Motor Factors since I was 18 yrs old and buying which ever was within that spec with never having any problems. In those days Coma oil was a favourite. Last Xmas on promo I got two 5L containers of 100% synthetic oil for 21 each. At the end of the day Super U/Leclerc etc don't have an oil refinery, they just bulk buy off the big companies. |
