New to the forum
Hi, I am from Guisborough and have a 2010 XTR. Ipreviously rode bigger sports tourers but have had a few singles before. My son is just 17 and on a WR125 Yam so wanted to ride with him and down sized. I also take the younger lad 12 year old on the bike. We also dabble with trials bikes. Twin Shock OSSA MAR 1974 for me. The young one also has a KX 85 Crosser. Love the XTR, it's standard apart from me having fitted a Touratech Sump Guard, heated grips and a pair of after market pipes. (Mainly for the look and sound). It's great fun within legal speeds and a hoot on the minor roads around the NY Moors near where I live. I have had the XTR a few months and have not done much on it. It's a boys toy!! Looking forward to summer and some longer trips. It's got Metzler Tourances on but fancy something with a little more mud capability as I tried a muddy lane and it was a bit hairy!! I had the boy on the back mind and could not stand up as he thinks I will fart in his face. I would mind you. Looking forward to the forums.

Welcome on board as they say. I'm a newbie too. I've not had my xt long but I have tweaked the O2 settings and put on a k&n filter and removed the snorkel. It runs real sweet now I'm lookin for some new cans. It's all good fun!

I have Distanzias on my XT600E, and I rate them highly. Very grippy in the wet or dry and a nice predictable ride. Being a soft compound, they don't wear well, but you can't have everything. The XTR came to me with Avon Gripsters, which I have never used before. They seem similar to the Distanzias, but with a slightly knobblier tread pattern. I haven't taken them off road yet, but they look like they would be better in the mud than the Distanzia.

Cheers, I will be mainly on Tarmac but can easily be tempted onto the slippy stuff so the heavier tread of the Gripsters should do the trick. At least I can fall off through over confidence then.

Thanx, I think the Avon Gripsters might be right for me. Any views?

Hello Mister_Pecky and welcome aboard.
Just be done with it and fit a pair of TKC80s - you'll be surprised - enjoy the black top over the moors and feel secure on muddy lanes. The Avons aren't really going to be any better than the Tourance off piste, but they are better on the road. |
