Park lights
On a few occasions on locking the steering have turned the key one to far where it switches the park lights on, gone off, come back a few hours later to notice this, fortunately bike started every time. Is there any way of disabling this on the Tenere?, even if I have to cut a wire, rather safe than sorry.

Ignition barrel has two plugs coming out of it. I think (without going out to the garage to find the Haynes book) the smaller one just does the parking lights, and if you unplug it the parking lights will cease to function. You'll have to take the tank off, and you'll need to remember to plug them back in at MOT time.
Probably easier just to get into the habit of checking when you walk away from the bike

You are not alone. Happened to me already once. :-) I've left the park lights over night and in the morning battery was flat... Now I always check!

There is a quick and easily reversible solution to this problem available, with only one small downside .
Simply lift the seat, access the fuse box and remove Fuse 1. Best to do this with the key in the park position to confirm that the parking lights, actually do go out. Now for the downside (which I have yet to confirm), I think this fuse also supplies power to the plug behind the headlight....the one most people are using for GPS or Heated Grip power. If you wish to continue having power to this plug, but want to avoid accidently leaving the bike in the "parking" position, would be to wire in an audible alarm (just like in your car when you leave the lights on). This would alert you to the potential problem. If you are concerned that the bike may not pass legal requirements with the fuse removed, you could always put a switch in the circuit to lock out the parking lights. Easily switched when required to prove that parking lights actually work. |
