Front end service

Right the time has come to drop the front end and grease the head bearings and sort the stripped axel pinch bolt; I've got the manual but can I just clear up a few queries first please. Propping up the bike - will jacking up the bike as per Kev,s XTX post suffice? I guess the plastic bash plate will have to come off first. Second I want to take off the tank, do I have to drain the fuel or is that just H&S crap from Yamaha? You did not have to on my old the X but rather than have petrol all over the floor its best to ask. Cheers Dave.

Should be fine. Have you got a centre stand? If you have then there is minimal weight to be supported under the engine anyway; you just have to be a bit more careful if your propping it up with side stand only.

You don't have to drain fuel, but if you've got 23 litres in the tank you'll find it impossible to deal with! I can man-handle mine easily enough with a gallon or so still in it. Be careful when disconnecting the pipe work, the hose fitting are a little on the fragile side. Some goes for putting the tank down/storing it when removed.

No i dont have the centre stand, ive not beeen that impressed with the tenere what with the turbulance probs uncomfotable seat and now the steering bearings going on a bike with less than 3000 miles. The fueling is superb compared to an XTX though which is why i got shot of that so caught between a rock and a hard place.

You don't have to take the tank of to regrease the head bearings or take out the front suspension. You can jack up the bike using the plastic bash plate.

As above ref tank. Bearings are most likely not 'gone' - they just need to be cleaned and greased. I got new ones from Yamaha but they are still in the box or bits as I've kept the old ones going by cleaning them out and re-greasing every 9k or so.
