Cool Hi all XT officinardos

Hi I'm Tom and the proud new owner of an orange XT 660 Z.

I have an R1 and bought the XT as something to keep me riding through the winter...but I can fast see this bike being in constant all year round use as its so much fun!

I've riden big singles in the past - but I have to say that I cant remember riding a bike that's so comfortable and easy to get along with....I've been braving the damp cold weather constantly for the past 3 weeks and even in the ice I have had a huge smile on my face.

There is one minor issue...and it seems that its a common issue, but I'm yet to resolve. The bike cuts out for absolutely no reason occasionally.

I can ride for an hour and not have an issue, then out of the blue it just conks.

It happens after decelerating, for example coming off a dual carriageway slip road , slowing to the roundabout and just prior to stopping it sort of blows itself out. On a number of occasions Ive been pulling into side roads and just as you drop in it suddenly fails - which can be a little disconcerting!

Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced the same and who maybe able to point me in the right direction.

Keep riding!
Tom

Welcome mate, best of both worlds a R1 + a 660.

Set your idle speed to 1500rpm when the bike is at operating temperature.

Guys - sorry its an XT 660 X! I did realise after I'd posted but hoped no one would notice.

Sorry to offend the tenere chaps and excite those that thought an orange one was around somewhere...my bad?!

Ill adjust the tick over as suggested and let you know - certainly doesn't seem to be low and seems to simply 'blow out' with a bump whilst still having either the torque of the engine still on it when slowing or whilst picking up the revs out of the corner.

Its a shame really because its a real blast to ride, but the cutting out does seem to happen at the most inopportune moment.

In terms of the idle adjustment .... am I right in thinking that this is a mechanical adjustment on the engine rather than through the diagnostic screen on the dash?

From what I read the diagnostic screen will give a read out of the rpm...

Can anyone recommend a good (and cost effective) luggage rack?

Thanks chaps

It occurred to me that might have been what happened! Mind you I like the orange XTX colour scheme and reckon it would suit the Tenere well.

In conjunction with a healthy 1500rpm tickover, a good fresh correctly gapped spark plug will also help a lot too. I always replace mine annually as a matter or course. All the singles I've had have been very temperamental at tickover and closed throttle with even slightly worn plugs.

You're right - Adjust tickover mechanically on side of throttle body and check rpm through dash diagnostic screen.
