Sealing up air filter housing - how?

Hello all, i have a little problem. I had a K&N filter fitted in my Ten, and snorkel was cut, but it's a bit messy job and bottom flange sealing up against filter had very uneven edge... I think this can let some dust and small debries in to clean side of airbox :-(
Now - what is the best way to seal this up?
At the moment i have put lot of multipurpose grease in this area, but somehow i'm worrying that this could be sucked in to the engine and clogged up throttle body, or cause some other problems?
Is using silicone seal is safer?

Third option is to but DNA stage 1/2 top airbox cover, but not sure how it will fit K&N filter... might end up needing to seal them two as well :-)

Any thoughts or experience on this topic ?

If you can post some pictures that will help others see what your talking about.

If its just making sure the air filter seals with the bikes housing you can get air filter sealing grease (K&N provide it with their air filter priming kit). It is really sticky so i wouldnt worry too much about it getting sucked into your engine.

Unless your filter is totally blocked, it won't be sucked in.

Grease is as good as any as it will also trap any dirt if you've a small hole in there. The trouble with silicon, if you need to remove the filter then you might not get a good seal next time. The cover you are using is quite flexible, the DNA one is very rigid.

While you are at it - seal the side covers with grease too, they are far more likely to allow dirt into the airbox and cause damage (if you haven't already)

How about using a toilet/soil pipe sealing rubber like this...

HA!! That's what it is! I knew it it's not an original snorkel ;-)

Looks like this is what i've got on my bike, but on the bottom it's cut very uneven... Will look in to that and maybe buy another one and try to do a bit neater cut :-)

I will pop in to the garage now and do a couple of snapshots to show you ;-)

Ok, so this is what i have done:

and this is why...:-(

... don't even know how long bike was running with this "modification"

I will have a trip to B&Q tomorrow, and if i can't find anything decent this will mean DNA stage 1 cover, and we will see if it will fit to K&N. Can't believe someone has done this to such poor standard.

Yep - Looks like you have an example of the "toilet seal mod", but done badly! I reckon you might be onto something getting a new seal and trying again, properly.
