The Return

Just dropping by to say 'hi' again, after a year or so of inactivity on the forum and after selling my XT660Z Tenere (and quickly regretting it). Will once again soon be a paid-up member and looking forward to more activity in this great community.

Since selling the Ten, I've flirted with a whole range of bikes, seeking that elusive 'best fit' for my needs. Over the last 18 months, this has included ownership of KTM950ADV, Blade, R1100RT, Versys x 3, Tuono R, Fzs1000 Fazer, XJR1300 and KTM690SM! (fortunately, being part year in Germany I can sell them on). None of them, with the possible exception of the 950ADV, have been comfortable enough for me - I'm getting on and suffer from aching knee and hip joints (arse is fine) so need as full a leg extension as I can get.

Long story short, it dawned on me that of all the bikes I'd had, the Ten was best by far in that respect (seems to be confirmed by that site on bike ergos). So I've put a deposit on a replacement Ten - coincidentally, another white 08 - and I'm so much looking forward to picking it up from Aberdeen and riding it over to the Mosel. Considered another 950ADV, but current escalating price of fuel and mpg, together with KTM 'faff' and bulk, steered me back to the Ten.

So hi again to all, hope to see some of you on the road.

Welcome back Loopydog. That's quite a mix of bikes in just 18 months!

For quite a while now I've been wondering what to replace my Ten with when I completely wear it out. I thought a big shaft driven twin would make a nice change for the occasional long jobs but the Super Tenere is way too expensive for me.
The Transalp & 650 V-Strom are also possibilities but neither appear to match the all-around package of the Ten (ruggedness, simplicity, consistent mpg & range).

I guess the question is not what bike to get next, but what colour!!

The XJR1300 .... actually, I'm keeping it. I love it, but not as an everyday bike, for all purposes - like the Ten will be. I'll use it for very short, sunny-Sunday trips out in the local area. I'm fortunate to be able to do that, I know. It has a great, smooth, turbine-like motor and is very relaxing to ride in 'cruise' mode. Put the retro jacket and jeans on and just bimble - stick it in top at about 30mph and it's like an automatic. And it's a looker isn't it?

Capt .... food for thought indeed. A very interesting thread. Not entirely sure which aspects in particular you're asking me to consider? Besides the main thrust - trade in in haste, regret at leisure, realise there is no better 'do it all' bike than the XT - there are other themes too. Perhaps you can spell it out?

Oh, forgot to ask Cap't, can I pay for membership other than by PayPal, which I won't use due to attempted hacking in the past. I seem to remember being able to send you a cheque last time. Can I still do this or a bank transfer? Perhaps you would be so kind as to send me a pm with details? Many thanks.
