Another newbie loving the Tenere
Hello All,
My name is Florin, and I am looking and hoping to find here far more reasons to buy a Tenere over a Vstrom next year. I had a thumper before (Aprila Pegaso 650) and single cylinder doesn't scare me, even tough the smooth Vstrom is a big plus. The high clearance and low rpm grunt makes then Tenere a favourite (by a small bit yet) over the Vstrom... |

Hi cofl1001 and Welcome!
I have used DL650AK7 for 3.5 years during that I have done bit over 50 tkm on it. Now I have switched to '09 Tenere. These two bikes are a little bit different and depends how you want to use them. V-strom is a great bike for on road biking. Also for two up. Enough power, very comfortable and V-twin engine provides smooth ride. However, it does not cope to good with off-road riding. I mean, if you put TKC80's or similar tires, it will take you many places, but you will have to go very slowly and carefully, cuz otherwise you will smash the bash plate (if you have one), or engine (if you don't). Tenere, in my opinion is already a little bit more specialized bike, and especially coming from V-strom requires some sacrifices. ;-) Comparing to DL, it is simply more orientated for exploring roads, that are not yet cover with tarmac, which suits my actual needs. Summarizing, if you have in plans "comfortable" trips mostly in Europe on tarmacs or light gravel roads (also two up), then take V-strom. If you fancy more Balkans, Eastern Europe or Asia ;-D then take Tenere. HOWEVER, if you just want to have really crazy bike, which will make you smile all the time (but slightly slower and less comfortable), then also take Tenere. I would estimate, that FunFactor is at least 11,79 times higher (I forgot which equation I have used for that calculation ;-) ), then DL650. Cheers and welcome again, Greg |
