Another Aussie XTR

Hi all

Bought myself an 08 xt660r, What a nice comfy bike. Have checked out some of the local dry weather roads and even with the worn and hard origional fit tyres she seems to handle the rocks, sand and clay quite well. Came with the yamaha rack, high screen, bash plate and I've got a set of intiminators coming. Will have to invest in a front tyre soon as the sidewalls are pretty perished. Probably leave it mostly stock as she's going to be seeing a fair few dusty roads with maybe a foam airfilter. Any suggestions for a 50/50 tyre that works well in mainly dry conditions gravel and sandy tracks? Anyway a picky from one of our local roads, good xt country.

Nice pic', nice bike, congratulations and welcome.

I've trail ridden on the Tourances on my Ten, but in anything other than dry dirt they are 'entertaining' at best.

Plenty of advice on here mate, but be warned that once you start improving it's a slippery slope.

Be sure to get a good air filter in there and remove the snorkel on the airbox, block the AIS and some free flowing pipes will transform the bike..

Smile G'day Plodalong

Hi mate,

Think I've seen that pic over on ADVrider.
By the look of that road that you are on, you have chosen well.

You will find the XTR ideal for those formed farm & bush tracks, the Tourances are a bit of a weak link, there are better options available depending on what you want to ride. Here's what I've done so far...

You never know what you might come across in the bush around Griffith!

Cheers, Boneman

Thanks for the tyre options, I'll check them out.

Pete hows Blenheim going? was my home for 10 years before the wife dragged me to Griffith. Miss the fishing, decent roads, mountains and good wine. Of course Griffith has its attractions too as pointed out on the tv series Underbelly.

The xt does suit the local roads my other bikes a Thruxton and while its a really nice bike its limited to the sealed roads. There's far more interesting and challenging dirt roads.
