B&B, Camping and Glamping...

It is our intention to use the same site this year as last year. There are many benefits to this we feel;

1) A great camping filed, to ourselves with a wild feel (and yet close enough to showers etc)
2) Glamping, or Camping Pods for those who want the experience but not the cold, damp, wet or basic comfort. These can be a bit pricey, but certainly an option. They are 5 minutes walk away from the camping field we use so still in the action.
3) { B&B, there is a B&B on site edit: no, they have turned it into a holiday let!}, even a holiday let cottage ! So if you want real home comforts then this is another option for you, and again 5 minutes walk from the action.
4) Secure, the site is as secure as we can get, there is or should be no-one passing through the site we use.
5) Facilities, there are washing machines, covered cooking areas and warm places for the campers if they choose, this site really does cater for us all.
6) Space for the communal shelter. Plenty of space for tea, coffee, sitting around, keeping warm, drinking, talking rubbish - and last year we didn't get charged for this (so fingers crossed)

Once we have the site booked up (we'll need to know number first) we will post out details of the costs.

What this weekend is not...

Lakes V is the fifth year, and it has been changing every year, little by little... it is allot of things, but sometimes it's easier to say what something isn't...

Lakes V is NOT ;

* It is not an excuse to make an ass of yourself, we do expect everyone to be friendly, open and have a good time. People disagree, that's fine, just don't take it personally.

* It is not a "do this" "do that" event, we arrange stuff, if you don't want to do it - don't! We will advise you if you just want to get out and ride.

* It is not about bravado, no-one cares if you've ridden around the world or back and forth from the shops, we are all here for a laugh. There are always people who have done great things, and they will be happy to talk about it, give advice of just regal you with stories.

Have a look here -> http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=19067

There are comments from last year's attendees.

Details

We are currently working to gather all the information together for the weekend There are two large pieces of work to complete and many smaller ones;

* Finances. We are working to pull together the overall costs of the various items (Camping, NavXT, Marque heating, Tea, Coffee, Great North Air Ambulance contribution etc). We will be letting everyone know how much the weekend will be before the end of February.

* NavXT. All change again this year with all new WP's, some better bonus WP's and some other twists to keep you guys guessing..... The format will be the same as last year as this seamed to be the best way forward. We will decide on the map areas and let you know which maps you need as soon as we do!

* Prizes. As those who have been previously we have been very lucky in our sponsors, and the prizes last year were the best yet, in fact everyone left with something. We are working hard at this again, but if anyone has any access to motorcycle related suppliers who might be willing to donate some stuff, please drop me a PM.

More later......

Lanes, Tea and Cake

After a day out in the hills, we have a plan for Friday..........

Under the esteemed guidance of StumpyDave, here is the plan;

10:00 - 10:30 : Leave the site and head out.
11:00 - 13:00 : Taking in the lanes around Gamblesby and Hartside
13:00 - 14:00 : Tea & Cakes at Hartside Cafe
14:00 - 16:00 : Some more lanes
16:00 ->>>>> : A loose plan to re-run some lanes backwards, or head back to site

Anyone is welcome to join Dave.

Dave has also suggested he may be willing to re-run the lanes on Saturday to - but you'll need to convince him!

-------------------------------------------

Saturday.

Saturday is pretty loose;

1) For those who have asked, last years NavXT is available to run. There are some issues with some of the waypoints, these may have changed details but as this is just for fun, it shouldn't be a problem.

2) There will be a run out into the Lakes, taking in the high passes, and maybe a stop at the cafe at Boot, for drinks 'n cake.

3) There will be a run north, taking in some great roads up through Alston and on to Kielder. A run over the Forest trail (3 to pay) and back to the site. It's going to be around 150 miles. The Forest trail is do-able in a standard road car, so dual sport tyres will be fine.

4) do your own thing.......
