Feeling Robbed

Time for a rant!

At 20years old I was pretty pleased to receive an insurance quote of 677 for next year including all the helmet, leather and key protection etc etc.

I rang the company, Express insurance, to see if i could pay the amount in a lump sum to avoid paying interests and what not. Whilst on the phone and checking details, i told them I had had a change of employment and wanted to change the amount of miles per year. Pretty simple you would have thought?

It would seem not! The quote I had received through the post then became invalid and I was told that even if I had let the insurance roll on (as they stated i could do in the letter) I would not have been insured. My quote then went from 677 up to 1400. After a bit of arguing my case I have managed to get my quote down to 1000, still steep i know!

The most annoying part is that they stated I did not have to call, and that my insurance would continue to be taken out of my account and i would be covered. What would have happened had i not called them? I feel as if the quote they sent was just to lure me in and then mug me off with a ridiculous quote!

Anyone else been robbed like this by their insurance?

Welcome to the world of UK insurance,I can hardly remember being 20 years of age!!,but if I ran an insurance company I'd never insure a 20 year old on anything never mined an XT!!.

If it's any concellation,I'm old enough to be your grandad,my father died last year,my 83 year mother was insistant on keeping his old car, between my wife and I we already run 4 bike's a car and 2 vans,we have full no claims on everything, but I had to start from scratch on a 13 year old car thats worth 600 quid, the first 3 qoutes were all over 1300,in the end had to pay 550,I suddenly remember when I was a kid trying to insure a bike and the guy on the end of the phone was saying 'You want to insure what sonny'

Thats insurance mate, i use to be in a similar situation (24 now) when i was younger and its just a part of riding a bike/car.

I use to use my bike alot more commuting etc etc so did around 15k miles which is always interesting telling an insurance company that a young person with little experience want to do above average milage, all they here is $$$$$$

Yep too true, they just see an opportunity to make 's! Anyway, it's gotta be insured and at my age anythings gonna hurt my wallet! I'll just make sure I justify the silly insurance prices with a lot of trips out on the bike this summer......providing we get a summer that is!
