Stripping paint off cross bar..

Hi guys

After fitting my KTM handguards, I had to cut the cross bar down to a smaller size and drill a new hole to accommodate it and it didn't come out badly.

However, Hammerite painted end looks a bit crap(brush streaks) compared to the remainder of the powder coating.

Do you think its advisable to completely strip the existing paint off(recommendations of stripper please) - maybe a very difficult task?

Or simply make do and maybe try and cover up the cut end better with some spray paint? (any recommendations for that?)

good idea.

Better to strip and paint the whole thing, or simply spray over existing powder coating? Not really keen if all I end up with is a black streaky mess

Get your brush marks out with some medium grade wet and dry (P240), then go over the whole lot to lightly key it with some finer grade (P400-600) then spray over with Hammerite (or similar - Plasticote is good) as Feck suggests. If you go back to bare alloy it gets complex because you'll need to use an acid etch primer to get anything to stick, then prime, rub down and finish.

Sorry to bump the thread, but does anyone out there have an old Tenere cross bar for sale that they might have lying around?

My attempt isn't bad at all, just wanted to maybe have another bash and do a better thorough job, with the correct paints and tools etc.

thanks

Ryben
