Question Going off road, snorkel in or snorkel out.

Hi all, I have an XT660R for dual purpose on and off road with 2into1 Metal Mule, BMC filter and PC III, and Im going to put it on the dyno to make a custom fuel map but I dont know if put the snorkel or take it off because I can feel the difference in better thorttle reponse without the snorkel, but in off road (dust, water, stones...) Im affraid of let strange things come into the airbox.

Offroaders, are you riding with or without snorkel?
Cheers.

Thumbs up 4ft water crossing, no snorkel

Greetings Ernesto.

My mate Supamanaint (Shane) took my snorkel out and since then I have done a fair bit of offroad, including a 4ft water crossing!

There have been no problems so far. Shane does a lot of dirt road (dusty) riding and hasn't mentioned any contamination problems. We both have DNA side covers coming, so that will make the airbox much less watertight.

Shane is a clever ******* though, and is thinking of making up a removable cover for the airbox in case of marginal watercrossings.

We'll be sure to send you photos of the cover. In the meantime, I would say that you are safe to ride without the snorkel in all but the most full-on off road conditions... Boneman

Last week I checked th filter and was ok, then I did 200km on tarmac and then cheked it one more time it was clean and the I did 40km off road even with dust and then open the airbox and the filter was clean.
So the snorkel finished its working days.
Boneman thanks for the answer!

Hi Ernesto,

You can always make a prefilter using Chux lightly oiled with filter oil.

Stick some adhesive velcro (hook) around the airbox opening and the chux will cling to the velcro.

This works to keep the rough stuff out and keeps the main filter cleaner longer.

Hope that helps,cheers.

Shane.
