19" front wheel for XTX
I have a cracking XT660X thats already done one trip to Italy with me so i dont want to get rid of it. I want a little more off road ability and want to be able to run off road tyres. I dont need a 21" front wheel but the standard 17" is to road biased so a 19" is a nice compromise. I understand the suspension issuse and can soften them myself. Whats the best way to get a 19" on the front? My thought was to have the existing front hub re-laced with a 19" rim so there wouldnt be any hub or brake problems. Any ideas where i can get a 19" rim and a wheel rebuild? Im based in Cardiff but happy to ship it someplace int he UK.

Good question Dan, I have the same bike and I too was wondering about a 19" front especially following the recent snow over here, so please let me know what you decide. I asked about fitting the 21 off the XTR but the brake and fork legs all need changing sob... Thanks Simon

Try SRM in Aberystwyth. Used them for wheel building on my british bikes, but they'll do any spoked wheels. They are a top engineering firm.

I've been the other way with a 955 Tiger from a 19" to a 17" it transformed the bike with the way it speeded up the steering, you guys will get the opposite effect,Yamaha have got round it with a different head angle which you can't do,so you'll end up with a bike that steers like a wheel barrow, the only option is to raise the rear(alot) so you'll end up with a very tall bike.
