Loose handlebar

One of the metal-rubber "things" - no idea how are named in English - that are fitted in the upper triple clamp and hold the handlebar holders broke on my Z, as a result the handlebar twists very easy and also on the broken side moves about 1cm up and down with a squeaking sound... it's the thing between the "13" washer plates in the snapshot from the parts catalog:

Local Yamaha dealer says that it has no part code for that thing and can't order it, the only thing they could get would be the entire upper triple clamp that would have those already fitted... problem is that's a bit expensive - I was quoted about 130E...

None of the xt660 have the part itemized in the catalogs, older xt's have it but I don't think it fits...

Did any of you have that piece replaced? Where could I find a replacement? Looking for ideas...

In the short term I'd get a metal spacer made up and have that pressed into the triple clamp. At least you'd be able to use it safely. It's only there to damp out the vibration from the engine.

Find a local engineering parts supplier and see what bushes they have - you'd be surprised what they'll have. Even your nearest fastener supplier may have some anti-vibration bushes that will fit.

I've used these guys over the years for one-offs and odd applications, obviously they're based in the UK, but they're good at what they do...

Solved

Solved, it's covered by warranty - the upper triple clamp gets replaced.

Mine also have quite a lot of play, out of warranty
Would it make a difference if I make it a solid fit?

Mine squeaky too!
Wouldn't put solid ones in tho vibration would be bad on take off and high speed be like using jack hammer probably surely someone has sorted were to get them as this thread was started in 2011 I have been emailing Englishbandit about long lasting cush drives for rear wheel from Andy USA so maybe he might know something for them been like a ghost town on here lately nobody answering people's posts just reading them!

Have you had an 'off' at all ?

The rubber gromet on the Z is easily knocked out of alignment, but can be restored by loosening all the bolts, including the clamp bolts to the bars, putting them straight and tightening stuff up again.

It's possible that yours has been knocked and something is pushed the wrong way, making it feel lose - Worth a try ??
