Newish XT660r - getting ready to tour

I picked up my XT660r today - red '10 plate with just 375 miles. Cleaner than new, well was. Wife has a 60 plate 660r, also in red. We didn't plan it that way.

Anyway we are planning a Southern Africa tour in 2012 and need to start kitting the bikes out. I will be having a look at the bike show in a few weeks time at Giant Loop great basin pannier/bag thing and at Wolfman panniers and enduro tank bag. Anyone tried either of these on a 660r?

Also needing at least one sump guard - Metal Mule looks fave, hand guards for one bike, and a wide rear carrier for both. Any views or advice on any of these?

Thanks

The Yamaha/Acerbis hand guards are very good but expensive. There are carbon copies if you search for champion hand guards.

Just make sure when you are looking at bash plates you know if you need a standard exhuast setup or a 2 into 1. I think the metal mule needs a 2 into 1 exhaust system, which arent cheap in themselves.

Not tried the pannier roles or wolf panniers. Owned a Famsa Tank Bag which was nice to have, didnt really get in the way when off roading/standing up, but wasnt really that big. Also its quiet expensive to buy new.

Mmmm, Metal Mule.... 1180 for 2 exhausts, 2 sump guards and 2 rear carriers. Plus 700 or so for 2 giant loop bags and a couple of panniers. This is looking expensive. I think I am going to have to sell some stuff.

Barkbuster hand guards look great. I will start with a pair of them. Only 75 or so.
