Checking oil level

couple of question was just wondering which way you guys check the oil level on your xt660z,s

ive done it how it says in the manual and it doesnt show any oil on the dipstick and ive tried the same way a few times, also ive noticed from new that it has spots of oil over the end of the cans (the silver surround on the end of the cans) after each ride.

the bike has currently done 1900 miles

any help appreciated

cheers jim

If i remember correctly the dipstick is near the headstock on the frame ?. You need to warm the bike upto operating temprature ,about 5-10 mins idling then check the oil level on the dipstick ,i am sure there is an oil level glass also .Another way that could help is there should be a small screw on the side of the engine which could be removed and you fill up with oil until it starts to seep out of the jole then replace the small screw .
Dont have a Ten anymore so cant be 100%

You have to warm it up a bit, I generally read the level after riding it for like 10 mins to the office, there's quite a difference between that and only 5 mins of idling...

There's no oil window as suggested in the prior post.

Mine shown some oil on the cans to but only when she was "young" - now it doesn't anymore - but it eats oil anyway :S
