2 Does it run any better, is teh surging still there,,, My Tenere runs better than my XTR did.

3 Does the seat push ye towards the front o the tank or is it comfortable..as i sit in the middle o the XTR.. No The seat is better then the standered XTR seat

4whats the wind blast like. will it buffet me wi the high screen if ma head is above it.. The screen position and seating postion is differet on the tenere than it is on the XTR and you dont get as much wind blast on the Tenere, { Im 6.1 }

5 Does it keep the rain off ye any better. No You need a Car for this one

6do they all come wi the heavy duty looking swing arm as the bikes a 09. Yes

7is the carrying weight any better. Yes. there is more room on the Tenere seat then we had on the XTR

8 is it the same rear shock or is it better than the XTR. Not 100% sure on this, but I think there are more notches on the Tenere rear shock.

9tell me more....????
The XTR is good ... The tenere is Better.

Hope this helps John.

The way i see it is that yamaha have taken the R an thought "how can we make this a better bike" and they came out with the Z the more versatile of the two straight out the box.
The main reasons i bought the Z and Not The R, are:
Looks
Tank range
Huge road presence!
Just as capable off road
more comfortable
So on and so forth...

Although if the R had the bulkier swingarm and Twin front disk i would of seriously considered it.

1 is their a difference in seat height...an how much if so A lot higher

2 Does it run any better, is teh surging still there No surging and runs better

3 Does the seat push ye towards the front o the tank or is it comfortable..as i sit in the middle o the XTR You are stuck in one postion with hardly any room for movement ,prefer the R

4whats the wind blast like. will it buffet me wi the high screen if ma head is above it.. Buffeting is not to bad

5 Does it keep the rain off ye any better NO

6do they all come wi the heavy duty looking swing arm as the bikes a 09 Not sure

7is the carrying weight any better Very similar to the R ,Yamaha advise you not to use side boxes and the top box though

8 is it the same rear shock or is it better than the XTR What was wrong with the R

9tell me more....????

If i were to buy another xt i would go for the R version ,but i dont do much long distance travelling ,if i did i would go for the Ten due to the tank range and higher riding postion

As far as I know, the h/d swingarm is standard, as is the dismal rear shock. For me, the shock is the worst feature of the bike, being underdamped and badly undersprung if you're carrying a load. Especially on dirt roads. Double especially on rough dirt roads.

Yamha say the max load for the Ten is about 190kg. Not with that woeful boinger, it isn't. Imo, of course.

John I have not had an r but several x's and a tenere, the main issues will be for you as follows if you want a ten.

Seat holds you, no room for movement, if you buy it try it and get the seat reprofiled, that will cure it.

The wind blast is better on the ten compared to the r but if you had a touring screen on the r then the ten is no better blast wise.
Riding the ten is good, it feels massive where as the r/x is small.
You will be ok with it's height as you are tall.

Final comment if I was to get another xt, no question it would be a ten.

thanks Guys... an Tony.. im a right in thinkin here ye have a TEN,,, what happened tae the Plastic Pig ye bought,, is that just history now... i cant remember yo u having a TENI went to see a XTX the day there,, a 08 plate,, wi the gold wheels like you had,, it had 2021 miles on it.. it looked like it was NEW right out o the box wi CC on it...2800 it was real nice... but a prefered ma R tae tell ye the truth... ave the chance o a Ten... an all a kept reading was that its bad fur buffeting around the head... an the only Ten ave ever had a go on was this one when it was new 2.5 years ago, when it had 1000 miles on it, but ma trip wasnt long enough to report onit...

I like the fact that the TEN is higher... an ad get the seat sculptered better if that was thge case.. but a cant seem tae get ma head around the buffeting......pardon the pun.... as am tall 6`5" no doubt ma head will be higher than the screen... i dont intend doin LONG trips onit it wid only be fur hoonin around the back roads...

my xtr has had a good oil an filter change , higher dog bones fitted, Carbon cans, Tourtech barbque bash plate on it, rear rack, sheepskin,[of course] new chain an sprocks one down in the front, anits a 56 plate... wi 12000 ml;es on it...will a change it after doin all that to it....a cant seem tae make ma mind up.....is it worth it...a suppose its only me who can answer that... I like the ten... an as we all know before the TEN the X was the bees knees fur looks...... I like teh X... i also like teh R as the potentials there fur tae go off road... an a also like the TEN,, but a dont know if its as sporty as teh R or the X... as its a kinda out an out Tourer rather than a back roads Hooner........ what do you guys say tae that...... answers on a postcard please...... thanks, john
