beathing deeply and air box ..cover questions

ive been toying with idea of trying the fuel mod ....
i fitted a off the road foam filter before me trip to the desert ....it was just to make sure of no dust ingress and had the snorkal fitted as normal .....it has worked just fine

i didnt want to put exhausts on as i ..like the look of the originals [im sorry i cant help it ] but more importantly i have them set up to take me luggage

i decided to to a de cat as per tim (thanks) and free up the airbox

i couldnt find the pics so heres a few of me own ....
one thing i found was splitting the cat vertacally was easier to get it out and then tidying the metal carcass up after [grinder and big ammer ] made it easier to do ..a decent mask is desirable as it chucks some **** out from the disc when you cut the cat

ive got kevs fuel mod in the post ...

i have a couple of questions if you can help ??

what is the advantage of the off the road filter cover at near 50 euros delivered ?? as below

over the ring that holds the snorkal [ below ] ..that is now detached ..i cant see why this shouldnt seal well it seems too ..does any one know of a hitch with this ?
i keep looking at the seal which is the same as before but without the snorkal and it looks to have the foam well and truly trapped ??

i havnt seen any posts on problems post decat ..has any one found any

silly time to ask i know ..doh ??

ive run the bike for about twenty five miles today and it certainly pulls better in the lowe gears ..even without any fuel mod its much quicker to rev ..it is more flexible under three grand too .. a little more tittilation on the exhaust note too ..i dont want loud at all ..... it really does ping on the backfire now ,,i quite like that so all the signs so far are good

i wish in hindsight id checked the plug colur before doing this mod though .. grr

thanks steve

over the ring that holds the snorkal

I would ned to hunt out the old cover and remove the DNA one I have to be sure, but I recall that the ring from the snorkel is a little more flexible, the DNA one is solid.

The only issue would be dirty-air-ingress through the edges, but this can be overcome with some grease around the edges (you should check and re-seal the sides of the airbox anyway).

I could be wrong on the flexibility thing though

snorkal cover seal

As far as i remember, there is not an airtight fit between the filter and the cover without the snorkal insert. To remedy this i used a doughnut washer obtained from a plumbers merchant. This is about the size of a ring doughnut but made from foam. It is too thick as it is so you have to cut it in half ( so you end up with 2 ). I found this to be a good solution and cheap aswell. P.S. this was using the standard filter and a DNA one . So maybee tour foam filter has a better fit.

..considering the compression on the foam one and that its oiled i think it will be ok ill keep a close eye on it for a few rides and get back
thanks

I cut the snorkel off the round bit that fits onto the cover and hey presto, fits perfectly with the original filter without any fuss or risk of dirt going direct into the engine.
