Topbox: Givi? Hepco? Neither? Other?
I am after a topbox for my Ten. At the moment it is a toss up between Hepco & Becker Journey Topcase 40 or a similar sized Givi. Just after the topbox as I have soft panniers (Enduristan Monsoons). I had a Givi on a rental bike last year for a 3 week trip and really liked it (the only place to stay dry on the whole trip), nice to have one lockable place on the bike. So, what do you have / would you choose? How do the racks / fixings between the two compare? Any others I should be considering? Not really too keen on the alu cube type boxes.
Cheers all. |

I've had Givi's for 20 years - indeed I still have and use some 20 year old boxes! Givi for me every time. Quality product.

No particular preference or recomendation on Top Box manufacturer, but a decision I have made (for the future) is to buy "generic" luggage from a supplier that has a range or racks and fitments.
I currently have Yamaha box and panniers for my Tenere, and BMW Varios for my GS. Both being unique fitments for specific bikes. Buying "generic" luggage that you can use on any bike has to be the more economic solution! Last edited by uk_nick; 07-07-11 at 15:37. |

Thanks for the replies. Nick, bearing in mind what you said, I have been looking at the SW Motech stuff as they seem more flexible. Adapter kits are available to fit a standard rack to fit virtually any brand of luggage (or so they claim!). So I am now looking at their "Quicklock Evo side carriers" with the same idea in mind. They seem smaller, more unobtrusive and cheaper than many other brands: 222 (ish) including the H&B adapter (I have some old H&B "alu standard" panniers), as compared to Metalmule 306.37; Touratech 238.51 for example which are brand specific frames. Anybody use the Quicklock Evo system? Thoughts?

I have been using it for quite some time on the Z. In combination with the Trax side panniers. Very pleased with it so far. It is quite sturdy, does not look too obtrusive and removal/installation of the quick-lock is quite simple and fast. (I tend to remove it when I go play in the dirt)
For the top case I just installed a Givi base plate as I still had a Givi 52L and a 46L top case lying around. The combination of both served me well during a 6000km tour around France and Spain last month. |

I bought my Givi second hand at least 15 years ago and have lost count of how many bikes it's been on. Always waterproof provided you don't get the string "hinges" caught up when closing the lid. The fit of the mounting scaffolding has always been spot on (but can't always say the same for the quality of the finish - anyone want to buy same for a first generation FJR in need of total sandblasting after two winters?!)
