Wiring in a Fuse Box, a dumb question!
I'm trying to wire in a fuse box, most of the wiring is done and ready for connecting. The only thing I'm not to sure about it where to get my live feed to the relay so that the power is controlled by the ignition. I have found the tail light (number plate light) cable and was thinking of taking the feed from that, by cutting in and the soldering on to it.
Now the dumb question! - am I right in thinking that I need to tap into the brown/blue cable as that's the live and the blacks the earth?? As you can tell I'm not that good on the old electrics, all help will be well appreciated!! |

I had one of those from GULG and that supplies the feed for the front spot Lights, as the other wiring was under the seat I wanted to tap into a feed there so there not wires going back and forth.

Yes, the Black is the negative, so the brown/blue is am ignition controlled live. This, you should connect to pin 86 on the relay. However I'd maybe use a scotch connector so you don't cut into the wireing. The other pins are: 85 to -ve (on the battery) 30 to +ve 87 to your load, or the fuse box. The -ve connection on your load needs to go to -ve on your battery (or you can connect to pin 85)

Thanks for the confirmation.
I was going to use a scotch connector, but when buying the bits and pieces from the auto electric place the chap there advised that it would be a better connection if it was soldered rather than using a link connectors. It will be taped up afterwards, if it ever needs to come out I suppose it only needs to be heated to release the connection and then re-taped. This is how I've got the relay set up at the moment. - 30: positive battery terminal - 85: cable from tail light - 86: earth (or negative battery terminal) - 87: Fuse box |
