Synthetic Grease?
Going to strip the suspension linkage at the weekend, where I expect to find no, or very little evidence of grease (according to other XTZ riders). Just wondering what type of grease everyone else is using? I’ve been guided towards Red Line CV2 synthetic grease? I have had zero experience with synthetic greases and it seems quite pricey at 15.70 +VAT for 397g, but if it stays where I put it'll be worth it!
http://www.redlineoil-europe.com/coo...Grease%5F00026 On past bikes I’ve stuck with Castrol LM which I have an abundance of due to the regular ritual of seeing to the six nipples on my Land Rover’s propshafts! I wish the ten had nipples to fiddle with… Last edited by Pleiades; 05-04-11 at 00:18. Reason: Crap spelling! |

Did you do the job? What did you find - any grease or obvious wear? Mine is due the 12,000 linkage re-grease.

Yep, did the job with the Redline CV2, but ordinary grease would probably have been fine. Didn't find any serious/noticeable wear, but their wasn't a lot of grease either (probably never was), particularly in the bottom bearing which is most exposed to road spray. All I can say is I won't be waiting 12K miles to do it next time, it's a fairly easy job and is thus probably worth doing every 6K. Must get round to do the steering head next...

Yeh that's another 12,000 job isn't it and probably worth doing as the heat from the oil tank must melt it. Do you completely dismantle the rear suspension components?

Just remove the lower linkage - see your post...
