New XT660Z Review
Hi all.
After reading all info available and doing a nice test ride, after spending long hours drooling over Tenere pics, finally decided to get my own bike. I'm loving it in every way... My previous bikes were a TTR 250 and a Africa Twin RD04. Picked the bike Friday night and set off for a weekend ride that night. Rode for 10 meters and went back to the dealer... The bike had something scratching the front discs! In the dealer we took the break drums apart and found a lot of metal barbs in the brake pads!! After cleaning them dove off the dealer for the second time, but this time every thing was ok. In the night ride realized that lighting is poor... The Africa twin had better lights! Also I find the high beam indicator light to be to bright. That round blue led hits my eyes and takes focus off the road. It is more comfortable to ride with something covering the indicator light. The seat is comfortable but the hump in the back limits movements. I guess it's a matter of habit. Can't speak much about the engine sense I havent pushed it hard yet but it is very smooth, doesn't vibrate much and it is very economical. Did 3,6 L/100km (78.5 MPG) during the Friday and Sunday rides. This includes 400 km in road at 90 km/h and 50 km offroad. On the down side it rattles a lot. Doesn't sound very healthy... Suspension seem good enough. The front goes down to much when braking but i liked it off road. I can always harden the front a bit! Did 50 km off road 2 up and the passenger comfort was acceptable. Rode sand tracks 2 up easily. That is something I would never do on the Africa Twin. The TKC80 fitted also helped. The handling is great! loads of fun in offroad Vs constant panic in the Africa Twin. In soft sand the Africa Twin was a very difficult. The tener allows you to ride easily enough to go faster and have more fun. The seat height is to much. I can only put the tip of my feet in the floor but that seam enough to hold it nicely sense it is lighter than my former bike. Overall I am very pleased with it. Now for some pics! Now I have some questions... Does anyone has the touratech roll bar bottom part? in the touratech site they only show the right side. Is it equal on the left side? Does it protect the water pump properly? I'm thinking on a Drenaline bash plate. Anyone has it? Can I see the oil or water temp on the dashboard with some secret code? The bike knows how hot it is to start/stop the fan, so, is there a way to see that in the dashboard? |
