xt 660 z charging problem

Maybe this problems been on this fora before, in wich case I apologize for being lazy not searching enough.
I have a tenere z -09. Love the bike but been having some problems lately. The loading stops working, the yellow light starts blinking and when I stop the battery is drained. Yamaha havnt yet found whats wrong!!??
The first time it happened I found that the kontakt from the regulator was a bit black inside. I cleaned it and loaded the battery and it worked for a cuple of weeks. Then it happened again. Left the bike with Yamaha.(dont want to screw up the guaranti ) They changed the cables from the reg. including the kontakt. Its all put together as one pice and youre not supposed to take it apart.
After a couple of weeks it happened again. This time I was stranded on a highway Yamaha picked me up in yust a couple of hours (good so far) Now they are saying they cant seem to find the problem, they have run computeranalys, but that they will try change ing the wiring in the generator. I was planing going north by the high mountains in Sweden and Norway next week. Donknow if I dare now. Not a soul for quite long stretches sometimes and for certain dont want to be stranded there. Anyone has any idea? Sorry about the English.

Rednax, search on 'Regulator' you will find lots of information about what happens and how to resolve it. You are correct, the terminals in between the reg / rectifier and loom are not making a good connection, hence not charging. Show this information to your dealer or better still get them to have a look at this web site.

Hope this helps.

Angry not good ! not good at all !!!

had my bike in Yamaha workshop for a week and a half now. A new bike with a fault covered by the guaranti !! Will probably get it back tomorrow. All plans for my vacation totally f-d up. They have changed the collector in the generator now...I now (after studying the different threads on this site) also realise what the yerking when Im trying to go slow and even in the city is about. Thought it might be a fuel inj. adjustment thing, but its probably the rubber cushings back there...after 6000 km !! So whats next ? Im NOT feeling confident about taking this bike out on any real adventure. Maybe the good feeling will return when Im on the bike again, ( I AM suffering from a case of bad bike abstinens and the time is 4:30 in the morning and I should really ) but I seriously doubt it . Don`t know what the knext problem will be.....Its a real pity, such a sweet bike to ride. Also after this, I cant say I love the Yamaha people here Even though Ive had quite a few deals. bought two bikes (one for my daughter) and sold them one at a really good price, not to mention everything else Ive bought, they made me feel really bad uring this process. Well, it might be Ill visit the BMW dealer tomorrow or KTM or...so f-ck them!

If your bike has been fixed correctly you should not have any further problems with the regulator.

These XT660's are very reliable, with us knowing 99% of the problems with them. Hopefully your faith will be restored once you get back on your bike, time will tell.

Cool more cool today...

finally got my bike back today and of course feeling a bit better after a ride. Still pissed though for loosing a great bit of my vacation and not getting the time to do the trip I was planning. The fix that was made...well, the collector is changed and the contact from the reg. is now smeared in grease and wrapped in electric tape..dont know if you can call the last a good fix , but I guess they havnt got anything better to offer allthough they really should imo. It cant be that difficult or costly I think and it seems a lot of bikes have had the same problem..
Anyway, reading your tecnical advises on this site with great interest and looking with more optimism on the bike (for now) in hope that you are right. Thanks for your time.
