Head Lamp conversion!

Hi All, I don't know if this has been asked before and can't find any ref ...sooo to improve the light out put on main beam could the dip light be permanently wired? as you guy's have noted that it goes out when switched to main beam, not a big thing but it may improve vision on some of our darker roads etc for not a lot of dosh

I was thinking the exact same thing when I first used the bike...I reckon it would be better having both beams going when using high beam instead of just one or the other...it has to improve visibility...

checkout http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...ight=main+beam

go to #41, has a full description of how to have both lights on when on high beam.

The whole thread is worth reading.

Converted both dip and main on mine to 35W HID, and wired the dip so that it is permanently lit by running a wire straight to the battery and taking a feed off the rear lamp wiring to trigger a relay. I did this to avoid the five seconds or so of gloom while a HID comes up to full brightness, when switching from dip to main or vice versa.

In fact, the dip HID on it's own probably throws out enough light to make the need to also convert the main questionable, but with both dip and main HID lit I can nearly cause an eclipse.

Converting the main was a bit more of a faff than the dip because the bulb holder is different, and requires a bit of resolute dremeling. Not difficult, just fiddly.

how did you get around the fact that the stock low beam only comes on when the bike is running ??

I imagine this is to avoid any current draw on the battery while starting
