Exclamation 2004 XT660R Error Code: ER-1 (ECU)

Hi lads,

I rode my bike into my mates last night and everything was grand. I came out then later that night to ride it home. The bike started spluttering. I had full battery power and lights. The bike wouldnt tick over and kept on making a ticking noise. At first it sounded like it was going to start because it started spluttering but that soon stopped and all I was left with was the ticking noise. Then the digital display would reset itself and the error code "ER-1" came up on the bike. I had to get a push off of one of the lads before dumping the clutch and bike into first and full throttle to get it going. I made it home and parked up the bike. This morning I took the bike out of the shed and it started first time. I rode over to the side of the house and turned it off and then tried to start it again. Same thing happened as last night. Sounded like it was going to fire then it didnt, then the clicking noise and then the error code again, "ER-1". I looked through the owners manual I downloaded and aparantley it is somthing to do with the faulty ECU.

Has anyone experianced this problem with their bike and where and how much is a new ECU. I have already checked ebay and I cant find one. The bike mechanic seems to be making a big deal of it because aparantly a customer got him to order an ECU for a bike before through him which cost 800 and when fitted to the bike it didnt solve the problem, it was just somthing to do with the connection but the guy could not return the ECU to the manufacturer and was out of pocket for it. I dont want the same thing to happen to me hye!

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Sambo ('',)

Had the same problem a while ago.
Get a new battery and your problem will disappear.
ECU-1 most time points to a weak battery. Even it still turns over, voltage drops under a certain level and error appears.

You may well try to start it up with the help of your car battery in order to test.

saludos,
Joe

I have it dropped into the mechanics since my post. I am waiting to see if they can take a look at it tomorrow. If not it will be next Tuesday before I hear any word back from them. I will ask them to check voltage on the battery. When I rode it into the mechanics we tried turning it over a few times to see the error code. It started normally the whole time there. Also noticed that the key is getting stuck trying to turn it to the on position. Could this have anything to do with it either as it seems you have to replace this along with the ecu from the above link that was posted by Denny. I wounder?

the ignition key lock is a common issue but not related to your other problem.
Use only graphite powder to grease your key lock!
