Tenere Oil Splutters from exhaust / back fireing issue?

Hi there again guys, another newby question about the yamaha tenere 660, i noticed i get alot of oil splutters around the tail pipe of the exhaust, that i am cleaning off daily (see pic below) i am wandering if this is normal with the tenere or...?

also i noticed i seems to back fire alot to when changing down gears / slowing down from speeds, is this sound normal?
- Thanks in advance

don't have a Z but from the picture, it all looks wrong.
You can expect some carbon deposit inside the pipe which you can just about see if you run your finger inside.
I would 1st check to make sure you haven't overfilled the engine with oil.
Next would be to check for oil leaks just in case it gets sprayed onto you exhaust
Popping on over runs is normal & normally caused by the PAIR system.
I assume you run the standard bike with no mods

looks normal to me. All exhausts do this, it's just that you notice it on the tenere due to the recess around the pipe.

yes, I'm sure. The exhaust fills with condensation when cold so that's why you always get water and clouds of steam until it warms up.

Yup mine does it too, no problems from it in 14,000 miles.

Mine does exactly the same. I presume it's the same thing you get with cars when you start them up and get water plus soot sprayed out the end of the exhaust. My bike did it when it was in standard trim and is exactly the same with a DNA stage 1 and 2 and the "Kev" mod set full on.
Maybe we should both try wipping the deposits off once the engine is hot and see if any more arrives. That would confirm the cold start water spray theory.

Thanks bonjo, yes the bike is 100% standard, and has no leaks, it just went through its first service, i guess the mechanic may had over filled the engine oil i am not sure, i will have to have a look in the manual and see how to check the levels it should be at correctly, thanks for your input again, muchly appreciated
