Do mods and insurance mix?

I've just been browsing the for sale section, in particular the 700cc kit that kev has for sale.

I'd love something like this on my r and the only problem I foresee is the insurance.

I've read older posts on here regarding exhaust mods not costing anything extra on the policy, BUT,

my question is, has anybody got any recent experience/advice of dealing with insurance companies regarding mods of any description in particular engine/power mods?

Its no good to me if I mod my bike then cant afford to insure it

Some companies allow <5% performance increase without any question. Over that then they start to care. However i'm yet to see it affect insurance by more than 30 for an engine performance mod.

Ring them and say "if i do... "

See what their reply is.

Mine have been with Ebike and mods are effortless.

Yeah I think this is the way to test the water without commiting myself.

In Australia under the Queensland law act where I live, I am not allowed to modify my XT660X at all, it is a learner legal motor cycle. That means no exhausts no filters ETC.

As far as insurance goes I never told mine when I had the 700 kit on my bike, as it is impossible to tell that I had a 700 cylinder except for the custom made cam cover which one does not have to fit. These cylinders have no markings on them stating CC.

+1 for eBike. I've modded my GSX600F, FZ6, DRZ400SM and XT660Z. None of the mods have made any difference, even the go faster ones.

I have found that insuring 'mods' doesn't effect the premium, but it does exclude lots of underwriters. So the reality is you may well end up paying more as you may have to use a more expensive underwriter.

That said, I asked for the definition of a 'performance modification' and the answer was less than complete.......
