Speedometer problem
My bike has been waiting in a garage for summer last 5 months. During the winter season I have installed leovince cans and powercommander. Of course I wanted to hear that new sound with those cans and started the engine after having those parts installed. Sound was awesome, but...
When I use neutral gear and open some throttle on, the speed reading rises. When I turn the throttle off, the reading follows the rpms and settle down to 0 kmh. The temperature in the garage is maybe something like +5C if the coldness could cause something like that. Is it possible that I have made a mistake while installing those parts? I tried to be careful and even read the instructions. The installation was simple. I have no idea what is wrong. Any help appreciated! Last edited by Onde; 01-04-10 at 23:38. |

Remove the ignition key & disconnect your battery, leave it disconnected to one minute then reconnect it.

Hi,
I think you have to verify the powercommander installation. As you explain the problem, don't have sense what happens. A question. If you ride, the problem is the same or it happens only with bike stops and neutral gear ??? It can happens if there is a bad shielding to the pick up of pinion to CPU. May be the new installation has triggered the problem. Try to verify. But is surely the power commander new installation. Ciao.

I havent been able to test drive the bike yet because of snow. Yeah, you are maybe right. I should verify the powercommander connections. I think I will disconnect the pc and test again what will happen without it. If it doesnt have any kind of effect I will deliver my bike to the nearest Yamaha service. Happy to have still valid quarantee.

Otherwise remove the Power Commander to see if it is the problem.

Well it is clear now that the powercommander is the reason. I removed the powercommander and all worked as supposed. I reinstalled it and the same problem occurs. Maybe the wires of powercommander induce that noise signal to the speedometer? Or the dealer just sold me a broken unit.
