Having Problems with Forum Search - please help

I've got a number of things I want to ask - mainly for a planned longish trip. Before repeating what's already available, I thought I'd do a few searches to see what's already been covered. When I atempt to do this, two things happen:

- I get a message saying as the search has less than four words, nothing will be found - even when I put in MORE than four words e.g. '12v Power Supply Socket for running gadgets'

- It sometimes performs a search, but instead of getting the expected list of threads/posts, it seems to take be to a list of links advertising products, like Maplins and the like!

Can anyone advise on what's happening and how I put it right? Otherwise, I'll just have to ask anyway and take the risk that it might already have been covered.

Thanks in anticipation .... Loopy

Remove the "12v" and "for" from the search phrase and try again, no words should be less then 4 characters. When you get the strange result is when you have typed in the Google Search field (below the forum tabs) instead of the forums own search.

Hope it helped. =)

Ahh, I see, thanks. So it's minimum of four LETTERS in a word length, rather than four WORDS as it says. Yes, I see the 'Google' and 'Search' now (reveals 'search forums' only when you click it)

Thanks for the help, topic now CLOSED. I'll now do some searching.

The minimum-four-letter thing is profoundly irritating.

The other option of course is to just search using google, but put 'site:xt660.com' as one of the search terms.

or use 12v*

in your search example: socket should bring relevant results

because:
- 12V is the standard Voltage for motorcycle so you're very unlikely to find 24V or 6V threads
- "power" will also bring engine power as in BHP threads
- supply can be petrol supply or "online supply"

you can also use double quotes " (and not single quote ') to search by expression: " power supply" "power socket" or bolean expressions:

power AND supply
or
+power +supply
