oil in bolt hole!!!

Hi,

Just serviced my xtx and when I took the filter cover off the left hand bolt/hole was full of oil! Is this normal? if not, how could it happen and is it anything bad if so I still have 12 months warranty remaining.
Cheers

I imagine (although I may be wrong) that it is simply oil seeping out of the the filter recess as you undid the bolts?

I changed the oil on my Tenere recently, and I can't say this was the case with mine or not, but there was a bit of oil in all three holes when I took the bolts out...

nice one, I'll sleep better tonight. Went for a run today and got to say I like the bike just smooth power. Does fitting a dna filter cause the bike to surge or does it help? (no real issues with surging but could do with a bit more umph). Cheers

You need to direct that one at Kev, as he is the engine guru... but from what I understand, fitting a free-flow filter and tweaking the fueling (with his mod of a Power Commander) certainly improves things on the X and R models...

The DNA1 does help the surging and power a little, for real gains in power and better improvement in the surging go for a DNA1&2 with a fuel mod. I have just done it and really don't regret it. CaptMoto can get a 10% forum discount from DNA if you PM him.

Nearly 10% extra power over stock from just over 100 of simple mods.

With after market exhausts and a power commander you can get more, but then your talking hundreds of pounds for less gains. I think the biggest bang for your buck is DNA1&2 with the kev mod. If you have the extra dosh for more, then happy days!

The bottom hole is part of an oil gallery & will have oil on the bolt, the left bolt should be bone dry.

DNA Filters only make the ride better and REDUCE surging at lower speeds, well worth the time and $ you won't regret it..

On the next oil change I will be checking the ball, spring & seal that holds the oil in the gallery as mentioned in another of Kev's posts as when i did the last oil filter change last I thought there was a bit of oil on each screw also... don't think the oil gallery would have much to do with that but will check it out anyway

Kev's post re oil gallery - http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=9392&page=2
