You will need approx. 2.5-2.6l of new oil with oil filter change afaik. Total amount is 2.9l including dry sump reservoir. Take care to stick to Yamahas oil change procedure and double check oil level according to manual. Do not overfill. Motul 5100 should be perfectly ok.

Take the bike out and get it warm then drop the oil, if you,ve not done it before on the XT put a big rag over the front wheel and brakes I use the oil you are asking about and have had no problems with it and was told by the Yamaha dealer that its as good as the Yamaha oil.
Cheers BEAR.

All of the above and also, Kevs top tip to me.
Before you take out the drain nut at the front of the engine block. Refit the oil filler cap/dipstick. Then take the nut out. Then slowly unscrew the oil filler cap/dipstick until the oil runs out freely. If you take the oil filler cap/dipstick out completely, and then take out the drain nut at the front of the engine, it fires oil all over your front wheel. Hence the towel that Bear and I both needed to mop up after the first oil change. You don't need to worry about this with the bottom nut drain nut.

Just remember youve got two oil nuts to do, one between the exhaust pipes and one under the engine.
Also when filling the bike back up you need to do this 1ltr at a time, then start the engine and let it run for 10-15 secs, then fill some more. This allows the oil to go from the frame/tank into the engine. If you dont do this the bike will say its full when its not really
