Question Help req on two worrys pls

Please can anyone help on two small concerns i have, being new to the Xt660R machine can you shed any light on the following two concerns.

When i start the bike from cold, whilst its warming up theres a metal scraping noise comming from the lower engine area, but as soon as i ride for a few miles and the bike is warm it goes ?

Second thing, i can feel alot of vibration through the foot pegs and handle bars at most speeds, sometimes having to lift my feet off the pegs to rest them from the vibes, is it just a big single doing its thing or should i be checking anything? Strange thing is i have only noticed it since ive had new tyres fitted but that surley would not cause this?

Please Help

I dont have any vibes through my footpegs on my R, and only very slight vibes through the bars, I have got extra bar end weights on though. Also no scraping noise at any time, except when I fall off

I think THIS IS the reason for your vibrations. Either a warped tire (not so often though...) or most of the times the "calibration" --I hope I am using the right word-- when you fit new tires. You know... those little lead weights around the rim's spokes. Most of the times this is the reason. Have it checked mate.

I had those great Avons fitted by a very good local bike shop, so i hope alls well with the tyres, but now you mention it when i first got the bike there was no weights on the rims, but now i see the bike shop have fitted them both front and rear, I wonder ?

Many Thanks

Not too sure on the metal sound of the bike, this might just be the sound of the engine when cold as the single does rattle a bit. Either that or have a bash plate fitted as this might be loose or need some packing/rubber mounts to stop it vibing and making the rattle you here.

As for the vibs, if its only happened after you go new tyres get them re-balanced. Some times guys balance them and dont do the job properly or they put on the lead weights and they fall off down the road, in effect not doing any balancing of your tyres.

if that doesnt work, try loosening the bolts hold the bars/footpegs on and starting the bike up, and tightening the bolts back up again each a small bit at a time, ie not tightening one bolt fully up and then the other.

The metalic sound may well be normal. Can you record the sound on a camera and attach it as an MP3 so we can hear the noise. We may be able to hear it and confirm if it is normal or an issue.

Try it and if the recording picks it up for you then chances are we will hear it as well if you know what I mean?
