Cheap Cush Drive Mod

Its bound to happen sooner or later, the inevitable came when I had a tyre puncture,I came to know of the cush drive which is not up to mark.

Searched this forum and found out of Kev's mod which is to put used rubber tubes in between to eliminate the clearance.

Juz for the benefit of the rest,I've taken some photos to share with.

Anyway, shame on you yamaha, using below par cush drives.

Ok,this is my cush drive after 5555km..(sorry,couldnt resist it,juz a nice number to do the mod)

Here is my slightly knackered cush drive.. 80% of normal commuting & 20% of commuting..(and its already like this?? )

After taking out the rubber

After some light cleaning, this was the amount of rubber that has disintegrated

After placing back the cush drive,I cut out some rubber sheets from a punctured used tube to remove the clearance..

And after which, push the sprocket carrier into it..

Ahh..no more clearance..

back in place..

After effects of the mod.

What can I say,it was a great mod to do yet cheap.. Thanks Kev..

No more snatching observed. Smooth feel when riding. Brilliant.

And now to test it offroad in the future..

Next mod..the ^*&^#! oil breather..
For a brilliant bike..it sure does have plenty of issues..damn u yammy..

Well executed, exactly to my instructions.

Depending on how worn your rubbers are, you might need a bit of force to insert the sprocket hub.

7000 miles and for the last 1000 the drive was snatchy like chain slack/ fueling etc.

I have taken the cush drives out and the look pretty sorry, the little rubber connecting the pairs have disappeared into dust on two of them.

So my question is, do I add the inner tube mod to these worn out ones or can I do it to new ones? Obviously the latter is preferred.

thanks Kev and anybody else who cares to comment

oilbreather...? What's the problem... ? I saw a modified replacement in Kev's encyclopedia, but no explanation what the problem is.
