Larger windshield

Hi there

Has anyone got the Kappa larger windshield? If so, do you know where I can get one?

The other day I was happily riding along at 75mph. I got a thought and stood up slightly to test the wind over my helmit. To my suprise it was a LOT quieter than siting behind the screen. I then started wondering if getting used to the noise is really the only option. I always thought that that is just the way riding the Tene has to be. But surely a bigger screen would be less noisy. I don't want to be death by the age of 50! (and yes, I never ride without my earplugs)

A vertical rally screen pretty much dictates that you are going to get some turbulence noise.
Your options to change it would be either something huge (you'll still get some noise) or if you really want quiet I guess removing the screen altogether but then you'll get much more wind blast.

The other, cheaper option I'd suggest is something like a Tuarag handlebar bag from Hein Gericke for 10 as is gets rid of a lot of the turbulence.

I've done 23.5k miles on my Tenere (almost all motorway) in the last year. Always wear ear-plugs and usually listening to music. I'm using the Tuarag bag setup myself and I'm pretty happy with it, I can still hear the engine over wind/music noise at 70-80 sometimes so it's pretty effective. The wind noise was not that much different when I rode a TDM 900 by comparison (but noiser than a Fazer 600 or something with a much more angled screen).

Not the Givi/Kappa screen, but the Metal Mule one. Not perfect and I had to reshape it to improve it. Far better than stock though.
I cut down the stock screen to see if it was any better, but not as good as the tall screen. It probably needs cutting down more.

It is the wrong shape, I bent the bar. Had the vice jaws open about an inch and slipped the bar in and applied a little pressure to get it how I wanted.

I have experimented with bits of Cardboard to see if Taller and Wider helps. Making it bigger makes it worse.

I found that it was quieter without the screen, but it does not look as good and you are in the Wind. Made various smaller screens they helped to different degrees.

There are other threads about the turbalance comming up the forks.

Again I tried the Cardboard fix and found this helps a lot.

Moved on to a bit of Plastic, and now I have fitted my Tank bag to th Handlebars to divert the wind comming up the forks, this has helped to most.

Good luck

OK, will try the fork wind-blocker first. Nothing to loose. Thx for the tips
