XTX modding today.
Today was a good day for the XT 660.
Lobbed on a pair of filters, stage 1 and stage 2. (Stage 2 replaces the outside wall of the airbox) which in theory with my cans makes approx 6.5bhp over standard. May not seem like a lot, but when you're starting with less than 50bhp, it's 13% or so... LOL. Think about that on your Gixer 1000 and that's 20bhp increase. Also got my fork spacers from Crust made up. These go in the top of teh forks giving it a stiffer front end. Not fitted these yet as the bike is at home and the spanners in the office. But tehy should in threory make it a bit less bouncy on the back roads. HAd a cracking race home on the bike.. well, he thought it was a race, i was pissing about and waiting for him. Seeing a bloke trying so hard in one of them Seat Leon FR things was quite funny as i was cruising on the lanes The XT is bloody brilliant at what it does and truely excels on the back lanes. Top top fun So much so that i can't see any way i'm not taking it to Parc Algar next year even though it will be obliterated on the straights, it's just very 'me' and i truely adore riding it.

Apparently you guys are all wrong... the spacers don't help... Someone with more brains/knowledge/suspension skills get over and back me up here lads

It will feel different, hopefully for the better for little cost. Maybe someone with brains/knowledge/suspension skills will comment soon. |

spacers
one the fence here, being an engineer and full of weird ideas i made as set of fork spacers for my z500 about 20 years ago. it made the bike feel different for sure. good road surfaces showed a big improvement in handling but made poor surface and pot holes feel very harsh, playing about with the fork oil would be a must. it is a case of suck it and see.

I had Kev's spacers and they definitly made a difference to the handling. How exactly it works, I'm not sure.
However, when a while ago, I had the suspension changed to Wilbers (rear and front), and for the front I was recommend (by somebody who knows what he's doing and I trust) to have linear springs order from Wilbers based on my weight and riding style (love the twisties), and I must say, it has made a massive difference. The front not as much as the rear (OMG, now I know what people mean when they say the stock suspension isn't all the great), but the front is definitly more "positive". Obviously, it's dearer than the spacers. |

The correct way to set up a front end is by using different spring rates, revalve the damper tubes & use the desired fork oil for the riding application. It will cost you alot of money, that's the correct way, I know I did it for Suzuki & Yamaha for 12 years.
The spacers offer a different ride height which alter the caster angle giving better higher speed stability, they do change the front end geometry of the XT & make it feel better. I also recommend one to change their fork oil depending if you ride on the the road or of the road. 99.99% happy reports, only one rider out of hundreds of spacers fitted pulled this mod apart & shot it down, but he did refuse to remove the spacers from his forks & refused the offer for me to give him his money back. We are only making cheap mods here not setting up the front end up for racing. I don't think you will find many people like me in the world, I try to help other riders for free, I ask for nothing in return. All my mods are very simple & easy to do, you can buy them for next to nothing or make them yourself with full details of every mod out in the open for everyone to benefit. If anyone knows of a better way of doing these mods I am all ears, lets hear about them.

weeksy, let me say that I hold full respect in you as I do with all members of this forum, I can't blame you for your actions in asking for a second opinion elsewhere, as you are fully entitled to, but all I ask you is this: please try the spacers first, feel the difference and if you don't like them, Kev will be more than happy to refund you, once you return them to him, then if you are not happy you can go back to the other forum and tell them they were right. At least that way you would have given us a chance.
Let me tell you Kev has always stated that if anyone is not happy with the spacers that he would take them back and issue a full refund. To this date Kev has never had a set sent back. I bought a set of those myself, I paid for them and I never regretted it. People know that I wouldn't sponsor "snake oil" or "fool's gold", because I'd like my reputation to remain clean while I am responsible for this forum. Cheers |

In the end its what works for you and your bike, and that is a unique combination that people can give you advice and pointers on, but they'll never be that unique twosome. So try stuff on for size
Anyone remember the Harry Enfield character that said 'ooo you don't wanna do that, you wanna do this' ? Well there seems to be quite a few of those types about in every day life, and a significantly higher proportion frequenting forums (not this one i hasten to add). Gents... Thanks
Don't worry about money stuff, my mate made them from Kev's dimensions and they were free Don't worry, after so many people on here rate them highly, i am gonna stick them in. But won't be until Sunday as my spanners are not currently in same location as the bike.
