Wiring up a GPS
Hey all,
I'm trying to wire up a Garmin GPS system into the connection behind the front light but seem to have run into problems. I've got a 12V supply coming through the wires, and that's going through to the GPS wires but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be powering the system itself. I really have no skill in electricals at all so I'm at a loss - any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Alex. |

How are you connecting it from the Yamaha plug to the GPS?

I couldn't find a connection for that in Maplins, so I just removed it and put these on instead.

I 'hard-wired' my Garmin StreetPilot III by cutting the cigarette lighter plug off the end of the lead and connecting it directly to the battery (through an in-line fuse). That way I don't have to have the ignition on if I want to stop and plot a route etc.

The spare supply behind the headlight is switched by the ignition key - if the ign. isn't on you won't have any 12v power. If you find that with the key on you still haven't got 12v at your GPS there must be a break somewhere in either your 12v feed or your earth. If you have 12v at the plug that goes in to your GPS but the GPS still isn't showing the 12v feed you may find something in the GPS set up menu that allows you to select the power source.
