12v aux supply
Hello
I have searched for threads but still confused. Is there a 12v aux socket like a cigarette lighter type? If not what is the recommended way to modify existing wiring. I would use this for GPS & ipod charging maybe for the mobile phone. I realise these would have there own adaptors but firstly I need the supply? There is nothing in the manual I downloaded from xt660.com re this. btw I pick up my red Tenere spanker friday Advice appreciated Kefty |

I think there is one under the main light in one of the sides, but I am not too sure as I have never had a Tenere, but you could ask Jmo or any of the other seasoned Tenere owners.
My guess is on yes, and even if there isn't one on my XTX I fitted an external one bought from Maplin which I connected to the battery with an inline fuse all incorporated in the socket. |

I've fitted a CIGARETTE LIGHTER SOCKET from Hein Gericke

Only two wires too connect, ran them under the tank and fitted the socket on the headlight bracket. |

When you get your bike ask the mechanic to remove the cover that is just underneath the instruments, on top of the rear of the light plastic covers. In there you will see a small UNCONNECTED lead. This comes alive when the ignition is on and is suitable for GPS and small amperage gadjets. Ask the mechanic if he has a connector that will fit into it and you have your result. Alternatively you can cut off the connector and buy matching male / female connectors from and electrical shop as I did.
Hope this helps.

hi kefty, one of my first jobs on the tenere was heated grips and cigarette lighter stlyle connector for sat nav / phone charger etc
the panel facing you [rear of the lamps]needs removed, two allen headed bolts, gently pull cover towards you.a loose cable with two connectors positive/orange and earth/black-white you could just cut off and join in or try and get the proper joiner from yamaha[i had a connector from a toyota that was close enough so was ok]. as captmoto said an fuse should be incorporated, that line supplies the side lights and has a 10 amp fuse so use something lower.the power is controlled by the ignition so flat batterys should not happen.. the cigarette connector is from maplins, cable tied to the clutch cable but i have seen a far neater fitment, using a halfords connector a hole was drilled into the curved 'cheeks' that are left and right of the lamps [should have taken a picture]and a nice plush fitting was made, you would think yamaha had designed it from the start! [i think peatbog did it] a pic of mine hope this helps |

I started off by extending the wires from the back of the headlight, and splitting the feed into two. Then I had one plug for my Sat Nav, and one for my 12v socket. I only use this for my little air pump, or a phone charger, so it won't get overloaded.

I tried using the connector behind the light for power to my zumo 390 and a cigarette lighter and now the dash light for my indicators starts flashing when I start the bike. The indicators themselves don't start flashing, if that makes any difference. Any ideas??
