XT660Z diagnostic mode

Hi all:

Anyone knows if there is some other way to have a diagnostic mode w/o the Yamaha 90890-03182 diagnostic tool?

It is unbelievable that a bike designed to travel all over the world needs such a tool, but the less adventure cousin XT660E has the diag software inside the ECU.

have fun,

j.

haven't tried it on the XTZ yet but if it is similar to the TDM and FZ-series DIAG mode is reached by:

press mode and reset buttons together, turn the key to "on" position while keeping the buttons pressed for about 5 seconds.

There's no in-build diag mode.

However, I heard that the diag tool is not expensive, about 25 I think.

If theres a few people in the same area it might be a good investment?

This is very interesting... I'd heard about this tool, and that it plugs in under the seat (the various connectors there - I believe one/some are for the alarm, but presumably the diagnostic doofer connects to one of them?)

However, when I spoke to my local dealer today, he said the diagnostics is done via the clocks "like other Yamahas"... and the the connectors under the seat are only for the alarm?

Now I know the diagnostics/adjustments can be made via the clocks on the XTR/X, but thought the XTZ was different?

Makes me think they didn't run a diagnostic test at the service which is a bit worrying... like what else didn't they do?

Any info?
