Anyone fitted an Autocom to the Tenere ?
Hi,
I'm looking to fit an Autocom with Bike to Bike radio to the Tenere, has anyone done this and if so where did you mount the control box and the radio as there seems to be a distinct lack of space ? Is there any room under the tank ? Thanks |

I moved the tool kit fron the tank to under the seat, then put the Starcom1 in the tank reccess. There is actually more space under the seat the there looks, the seat sits about 15-20mm higher than the frame, so you can get some stuff in.

The lack of space under the seat is my one complaint with the Tenere. I have an Autocom unit and Kenwood radio just sat in my garage doing nothing because I can't find enough room to fit it.
One option I am toying with is to look at mounting the comms stuff into a waterproof box on the back of the bike, possibly then mounting peatbog's excellent rack onto the top of that - this may be a pants idea though and may come to nothing. Will post if I ever get around to it being more than just an idea. |

I wanted a rear rack, but I also have a Yamaha topbox, so I wanted to be able to swap between the two easily and quickly. The answer (this was pre-petebogs rack) was to get a GS rack from fleabagbay (25) and make a 'frame' that fits the same mounts as the Yamaha topbox. I used a combination of Nylon block and some steel. My steel is bend down at the edges to provide extra tie downs, but you could turn it up and create a space for an electronics box. By using security bolts to mount it all would keep the lighter fingered away ?? Luck for me the Starcom1 is very small compaired (but rather expensive!) to the Autocom unit and can fit into a few places under the seat, the radio fits neatly into the handlebar bag. www.starcom1.com

The Starcom1 digital is indeed quite small. But even the bigger original Starcom1 fits under the seat (albeit only just). I did have to take one of the rubber mounted plugs off its mounting but it is now nicely fixated by the Starcom unit on top of it.

Thanks for the feedback, I will take a look under the seat and see if it will fit.
The only other problem I have is that I seem to have lost the Autocom and radio which I took from my other bike. It is in my house somewhere but I am ******ed if I can find it. Oh well looks like ebay here I come to buy another unless anyone is selling one here ? |
