Crap. I broke the oil filter cap. Tips on how to change needed.

After this year's oil change I went to bleed the air from the oil filter and accidentally turned the screw the wrong way. So now I have to replace the oil filter cap and I'm wondering which way to do it since the bike is filled with oil.

Should I empty the oil again, replace the oil filter cap and follow the standard procedure?
Or can one lay the bike sideways, replace filter cap and just bleed the air?
