Using thinner oil achieves practically the same thing, although there will be (even with SAE 5 oil) some residual damping coming from the existing damping tube. The big advantage with not drilling is that returning the forks back to standard is easy and free!

I'm very impressed with the Teknik valves - a massive improvement over stock. Much more control, both in compression and rebound.

I have changed the springs to Ohlins 6.0N/mm springs (stock springs on pre-2012 bikes is 4.8N/mm). I use SAE 10 oil.
