If you're going to do more specialist riding than the normal mix of road and some trails, and if you don't know which way to go, then you probably wouldn't go far wrong getting some specialist advice on improving the whole package to suit, front and rear. Most decent suspension specialists, such as FTR (Bury St. Edmunds) who I used, will be more than happy to give free advice. The outcome need not be expensive either. For example, you can do a lot with the stock forks to make them very effective, and probably as good as most secondhand donor USD conversions (unless that is they have had some money and time thrown at them and been properly setup, resprung and revalved etc).

Don't guess what you think you need. Go and get some professional advice. It'll save you a lot of money, hassle and time in the long run.

Down your way I have heard good things of Steve Jordan in Surrey and MH Suspension in Wiltshire.
