Sand is easy. Drop your tyre pressures, so nice wide traction areas and won't dig in. Get your weight to the back, keep the front end light and don't brake! That shifts the weight to the front wheel which digs in unless its pointing dead straight. Getting your weight off the back i.e. standing helps a lot because you can move your weight forward and back. This controls the back wheel, you want it driving but not spinning.
