The red flashing "key" light is normal; it's the immobiliser armed warning. It should however stop flashing and go into stand-by mode 24 hours after the ignition was last switched off. If it doesn't you may have a fault. It also shouldn't flash when the ignition is on either.
On X/R models (for some unknown reason) the clock displays continuously. It is also normal.
