Smile Beach ride

Walney is the edge of Morecambe bay, the channel and the beaches all the way up the island and past the duddon estuary have pockets of quicksand. My post is intended more for people out of the local area who think a beach is firm all over right down to the waters edge. My advice would be to avoid any muddy sand and not to stray more than 50yds from the high water mark. Do not under any circumstances drive within 200yds of the low water mark .when the tide turns the water advances under the sand ahead of the waters edge and what was firm sand 10 minutes ago is now luiquified . also drainage channels can have quick sand bottoms if you walk into one of these it feels like your walking on a bouncy castle/bed mattress do not stop keep moving. People lose bikes and 4x4s every year around this area. Sorry to sound a doom merchant but it is very dangerous for the uninformed.
